From a message I received 2 weeks ago but read just now:
This week sees the release of Jane Birkin's new album 'Rendez-Vous' carrying a track written especially for her by Beth Gibbons and featuring Beth on backing vocals. Jane is of course widely known as an accomplished actress and unforgettably as Serge Gainsbourg's wife and muse and the track 'Strange Melody' is a fantastic meeting of two very extraordinary women.
After checking the site, where samples for all Birkin's albums are available, I saw there are special guests in all 'Rendez-Vous' songs. There's Brian Ferry, Brian Molko, Manu Chau, Caetano Veloso (singing a classic) and other less pop names. Beth's part I heard was a recognizable haunting 'howl', while Birkin's in charge of words.
