Rolling Stone talking about Sigmatropic album. Better later than never, I suppose.
Would anyone tell me why is the new Strokes album being so talked about? Ain't it enough there's White Stripes all over?
75 or Less, nice site to who's trying to find new releases and in a hurry of guessing whether it's good. All reviews are 75 words long or less.
The best (and most recent) one is as follows:
Britney Spears - In The Zone (Jive)
Oops, she did it again.

Got a little bored last nite, but couldn't sleep either. Accessed Yahoo! and in the search field, typed: chan marshall
The results are much better than typing 'cat power chan marshall', which I do more often but narrows too much, the best of 7 pages:
The Age, from Australia
Big Pond, review of 2 Aussie gigs + a not so common B&W pic
Sydney Morning Herald
Youth Radio, wish I was this kid

Part 2:
Saturday Fremantle "Fly by night club"
Fly by night is a "musicians club" a sort of Coop. Beyond cool.
It was evident that Chan was very into this club. She was hanging out with a lot of the people there. She appologized several times stating "I so wanted this to be a good show I am so sorry". The audience was extremely receptive. Someone said "i don't know what the fuck you are listening to but this is great".
Before the show she came out put her hand on my shoulder, sat behind me and said "I keep wanting to talk to you but i am afraid you are going to hurt me". Dead silence. I left shortly thereafter. Some guy came out and i got some really bad vibes. Had to split but came back for the show. i don't know what that was all about but i didn't like it at all. It really effected me. i just couldn't grasp (and still can't) as to how or why that impression was takin. Utterlly shocked and appaulled
She was much different when on stage. Cross Bones was added to the set list to my complete suprise (as if an appology). When the song came up she broke down. Really started stressing out. I told her to play what the fuck she wanted and that I never wanna her that song again (Please Mr. Please).
The show progressed. Only one request was honored "satisfaction". Few if any aknowledgments of requests. It was a good show despite frequent appologies for it being otherwise. I have trouble recalling songs for this show, I think due to the dominance of the preperformance comments. Another departure from standardization. This is what I like most about Cat Power.
Just never know what the fuck is going to happen. Very interesting.
Sunday, Perth Rosemount Hotel
Rosemount Hotel is a medium size venue about 500. Nice place with a good vibe. She kicked the band out less than half way in (not planned) and did the rest of the show solo. The band hung out outside the club. On my way to catch the Red Eye to Sydney (had to leave before the show ended) we all hung out for about a half an hour, while Chan played. They were a lot of fun.

Gig reviews from a reasonable guy who went minitouring after Cat Power in Australia:
Part 1:
Sydney The Basement (Sold Out). This was by far the most difficult venue to obtain tickets. It was by far the smallest and most personal venue. Around 200 capacity. Dinner was served to about 100 reserved tables. I was only able to gain entry by pure destiny, as the show was sold out for weeks in advance. I obtained tickets through a gentleman that listed them on EBay (so unbelievable!). It was a solo show.
Chan was spouting a flimsy white dress with jeans under. When she came out initially, she started interacting with us (audience) and had no predetermined list of material to perform (shocking a). After a few minutes I said "In my Kitchen" and to my suprise she not only performed it but did so completely "on" (if you have seen a show you probably know what I mean by on) untli the first chorus and then explained that the song got really loud after that and didn't want to do the rest (Cool). I had the waitress give her a double jack Daniels. She said 'i wasn't going to drink tonight... Anti Depresents and Alcohol...(good shit intended meaning). She seemed to like the jack though later i learned she prefers high grade Scotch. A bit later she asked "how do you like my new dress" (whistles). A man said "it would look better without the jeans" (I don't know this man but I saw him in the mirror yesterday) a woman said "he's a regular asshole" the man said "its a dress man". Chan smiled, as to suggest he's alright thanks for the compliment. (Sorry to do all this crowd interaction stuff but it really was the most poigniant aspect of many of the shows). It was as if these were pieces of montage art with the audience as medium.
There were a myriad of extended discussions about certain pieces of work. Chan was extremely interested in learning more about the people in the audience. Carrying on full scale "private" discussions with many of them. I was struck by the shear volume of Piano pieces, heretofor unbeknown to me (I had yet to here "you are free" with any focus). About half of the songs started were finished, but every single stitch of work was straight from the muse. When the muse left the work abruptly stopped. Chan did not appologize (I only mention this because she often does for no apparent reason).
Chan interjected on more than one occassion that the promoters did not like all the audience interaction stuff and called her unprofessional. She specifically said "fuck that shit" and pushed the concept of 'this is who we are we care about each other deal with it" ("" my interpretation). This audience was very receptive to this. As if they had come to "feel" Chan and were interested in the work only in so far as it presented a feeling of understanding and comprehension of who/what this is. Rather than being about a bunch of songs. This show was about a bunch of moments & interactions (that I truely treasure), some of which related to songs. It was truely one of the most unique and beautiful things I have witnessed.
The club was divided into 3 separate areas with unique offerings.
One was a lounge which many of the musicians hung out after the show with the audience. We all drank A LOT. If there are any specific questions regarding this or the others shows i can answer them. This is what i took away and strikes me as significant.

Just found out about this Cat Power fanlisting. Amazingly, tons of Brazilians.
The awaited Melissa Auf Der Maur album will be released in February by Capitol Records. It'll feature guests James Iha (surprise!), Dave Grohl (surprise!), Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, Twiggy Ramirez, Mark Lanegan, Paz Lenchantin and Troy Van Leeuwen.
Why isn't Corgan on the list?!?! :P
Trivia:
*Ms. Maur tried to bring some texture to Ryam Adams' "Rock N Roll" by doing some backingvocals
*She was a Hand Of Doom member, a Black Sabbath tribute band. Never heard them, but it's supposed to be very good, positive reviews wherever u can find them.

it's amazing how Elliot was important and loved but little recognized:
Ppl have been making tributes to him, artists have been writting about how touched they are by the news. Here's an example on Jesse Sykes notes section:
:: Friday, November 07, 2003 ::
We are back in town....were on a stint on the east coast with iron and Wine then played the CMJ thing in NYC.It was all pretty amazing.I'll go into detail later but right now just wanted to say to any local folks you should come down to the Sunset tomorrow night(Friday the 7th)Phils arm is in a sling and I'm sick as a dog,so it should be pretty funny if nothing else!....Jon langford is playing and some of my band plus Kwab from Burn Burn Burn will be backing him up.Phil was going to play but the whole arm thing happened, its a long story!Anyway, got to play the Bloodshot records BBQ while CMJ was going down-just wanted to say we were quite honored. Also wanted to say how cool the Barsuk show at irving Plaza was.Im feeling pretty blessed right now,we have lots of really good people in our lives. Found out about Elliot Smith just minutes after getting off stage....not a day has gone by that i dont think about him ,it is so fucking sad and there just arent any words...Well i best go.We've once again been in the studio all day and i am going to sleep...theres so much more i want to say about all this....Elliot,fuck.goodnight-jesse

Now the problem is I'm working on some layout improvement (you'll know more on that later) and there are no news on Cat Power, which I miss. Except, of course, for the latest performance, on All Tomorrow's Parties that finally happenned. The review will be posted here as soon as I have a full text.
Besides that, I find nothing on the press and all I read is "fans" complaining generally about nonsense reasons, which I don't ever bother replying.

Y'know what?
I know most ppl here can't read Portuguese, but it's not that hard to access the videos and the pics of most bands of the Festival. Go here and u can see the list of shows and lil icons for videos and pix beside the artists' names. Much easier. Any problems, talk to me.

That's fun:
if u enter here and type Cat Power and choose your city high chances u'll find a couple freaks to talk to and maybe meet. U can to that to other artists and subjects, too. I bet The Matrix has a few million.

Not everything is lost.
There is an article in The Guardian where says:
"What else am I meant to do?" says Chan Marshall, the sole member of Cat Power, when asked why she is undertaking a tour covering Europe, Brazil, the US and Australia that will keep her on the road well into 2004.
And I just saw somewhere there'll be another tour in Asia a year after she's debuted there. That makes me think it's not that impossible she comes back to my sweet ole' country tho her latest European tour was cancelled.
The scheduled gigs:
Jan. 9 - Taichung, Taiwan @ Cultural Art Centre
Jan. 10 - Taipei City, Taiwan @ The Wall Multi-Art Live House
Jan. 11 - Taipei County, Taiwan @ Curtal Centre Concert Hall
I'm not being very acurate, but that's about it.
